Fushimi-juku

90 years after Mitake-juku, Fushimi-juku was well-organized. Around here, it flourished with the transfer through Kiso River of a lot of materials from Shinmura-minato. Nowadays old streets that remain to some degree and honjin ruin monuments remind us of ancient times. In Nishizaka Banryu Shonin’s myogo monument is left, who is known as Yarigatake Kaizan, and it provides us witha glimpse of part of the faith of people living there.
◆From Fushimi-juku to Ota-juku
In most of this portion of the course, the Nakasendo passes Kani City, including the area from the west of “Inuyama-kaido road sign” to “Imawatari ferryboat” and “Dota ferryboat”, which are on opposite sides of the river in Ota-juku (Minokamo City). All roads in this portion of the course are well-maintained as national and city roads, and you can no longer see what used to exist along the Nakasendo in ancient times; however, you can see remains which remind us of those times, such as stone pavements at “Imawatari ferryboat”, “Dota-no-Ichiri Zuka ruin” and “Sakuraino-izumi.” It is said that ferries around here used to be located in Dota but they moved to Imawatari with changes in the flow of Kiso River. There are some small remains of the “Dota-no-Ichiri Zuka” stone monument, but there is no “Shinden-no-Ichiri Zuka” stone monument left.
