Akasaka-juku flourished with pilgrimages to Mt. Tanigumi, facing “Akasaka Port” on the former Kuise River.
In this post station, you can see the old townscape and many well-repaired remains, which remind us of ancient times, such as “Ocha-ya Yashiki ruin (famous as a peony garden now)”, which provided accommodation exclusively for generals, “Akasaka Port ruin” and “Honjin Park (honjin ruin).”
◆From Akasaka-juku to Tarui-juku
This portion of the course gives us a relative feel for the atmosphere of ancient times.
There are historic sites such as “Hirui Otsuka tumulus mound (the biggest keyhole-shaped tumulus mound in Gifu)”, “Enko-ji Temple (famous for colored leaves)” and “Mino-kokubun-ji Temple ruin.”
Off the Nakasendo, in “Minoji”, which passes from Oiwake, Tarui-Town in the direction of Nagoya, there is an avenue of approximately 50 pine trees left, which reminds us of ancient times.
