Ochiai-juku

Ochiai-juku is the 44th post station from Nihonbashi in Edo. It is very rare in the entire course of Nakasendo that the gate, building and garden of the honjin which is located in the center of Ochiai-juku remain as they were.
◆From Ochiai-juku to Nakatsugawa-juku
In this portion of course, the Nakasendo passes across Route 19 several times. There are “Ochiai Goro Kaneyuki’s Castle ruin,” which is now known as “Ogaransama”;“Kono-no-Ichiri Zuka”monument, “Kakumei Shrine,” at which “Kakumei Reijin” is enshrined to memorize a pilgrim who is known as Ontake Kaiki; Kono-no-“Tokkonsan,” in which there are Tokuhon Shonin’s nenbutsu monument, etc.; and “Asahigaoka Park,” from which the town of Nakatsugawa can been seen very well. The slope in front of Nakatsu high school down Chayasaka takes you to “Nakatugawa-juku.”
