Kano-juku

Kano-juku is the largest post station among the 17 post stations in Mino, which is one of the few castle towns among the post stations along the Nakasendo. In this post station there are crooked roads, road signs and monuments, which remind us of ancient times. From “Kano Caste honmaru ruin”, designated as national historic site, you can enjoy a view of faraway Mt. Kinka. It will be interesting to imagine ancient times, with a view of Gifu Castle which is related to Dosan Saito and Nobunaga Oda.
◆From Kano-juku to Goudo-juku
Unfortunately you can hardly see what used to exist in the area from Kano-juku to Kagashima in ancient times. Only the “Ichiri Zuka ruin monument” and “Orai-nomatsu stone monument”, at Kikuchi Shrine slightly south of Nakasendo-honsen, remind us of ancient times. The Kagashima area flourished, facing Kagasima-minato at Nagara River, andthere are some houses along the street which remain as they were, such as “Osshin-ji Temple” that is linked with Kagashima Kobo. Around here there is a ferryboat left, which is very rare now. From the “Obeni ferryboat” you can have a tasteful view of Mt. Kinka.
